چکیده

Coordinating distributed executions is achieved by two widely used approaches: process groups and transactions. Typically, the two represent a trade-oo in terms of the degrees of consistency and performance. By applying transaction concurrency control techniques to characterize and design process group multicast orderings, we aim to provide aspects of both ends of the trade-oo. In particular, we propose a framework in which each message multicast is regarded as a transaction. Appropriate message ordering protocols are devised and shown to be correct using a variant of concurrency control theory. Also, we are able to incorporate certain aspects of application semantics for which existing process group approaches are inadequate. Finally, our framework provides a means to characterize the performance of orderings to allow a comparison of diierent ordering protocols.

A Real Time Optimistic Strategy to achieve Concurrency Control in Mobile Environments Using On-demand Multicasting

In mobile database environments, multiple users may access similar data items irrespective of their physical location leading to concurrent access anomalies. As disconnections and mobility are the common characteristics in mobile environment, performing concurrent access to a particular data item leads to inconsistency. Most of the approaches use locking mechanisms to achieve concurrency contro...

Using announce-listen with global events to develop distributed control systems

We specify an abstract model for dynamic distributed control systems in which the component objects make local decisions based on system-wide constraints and approximate global state. We focus on the issue of distributed resource management, exploring a solution that is both compositional and scalable because it builds global events into the Java infrastructure by exploiting its multicast facil...

Making Architectural Analysis Reasonable

Software systems that integrate a set of concurrent and possibly distributed components are becoming increasingly common. One architectural style that is often used in such systems is implicit invocation[1, 2]. In this style, a component communicates and passes control by announcing events, and these events are multicast to a set of consuming components that perform actions in response to event...

Testing distributed real-time systems

For testing of sequential software it is usually sufficient to provide the same input (and program state) in order to reproduce the output. For real-time systems, on the other hand, we need also to control, or observe, the timing and order of the inputs. If the system additionally is multitasking, we also need to take timing and the concurrency of the executing tasks into account. In this paper...
